Carbon-Carbon Composites
Carbon-Carbon (C-C) composites
offer unique material properties such as high strength, light
weight, and resistance to high temperature and corrosion.
These properties make C-C composites an ideal material for
pistons for both stationary and mobile engines. Materials
Modification Inc. is working with Veejay development and has
developed C-C pistons for Ford, Honda, and Onan Engines.
The advantage of using C-C
composite pistons in Gasoline and/or Diesel engines are:
-
Increased performance (higher) power output and
faster engine acceleration,
-
Higher temperature operation
resulting in improved fuel economy,
-
Reduced levels of air pollutant
emissions, and
-
Reduced noise and vibration harshness (NVH).
Such improvements could provide substantial operational cost
savings and also address pollution and other
environmental issues.
